Our Story

Rooted in East Texas, driven by love for the breed

I'm Susan, the breeder behind Toledo Bend Cavaliers, in Hemphill, Texas on the shores of Toledo Bend Lake. Our pups aren't pets, they're family members — born and raised in the home, microchipped, vaccinated, and both parents fully DNA tested.

Every litter is whelped and raised inside our home, surrounded by children, other animals, and the everyday sounds of family life. Our puppies leave us fully socialised, confident, and ready to bond with their new families.

  • Cardiac evaluation on both parents
  • Hip & elbow evaluation on both parents
  • Eye examination on both parents
  • Patellar luxation (knee) evaluation
  • Full DNA disease panel on both parents
  • Annual veterinary wellness exam for every breeding dog

Happy Families

What our puppy families say

We got our Cavalier puppy from Susan and Jeremy last Christmas and it was honestly the best experience. We'd been searching for a while when we reached out, and it turned out they had the last girl of the litter left. We drove down from Houston to meet them and felt welcomed right away, like we already knew each other. We ended up talking for almost two hours about everything. Before we left, Jeremy even sent us off with homemade cookies for the long drive back. The puppies are raised right in the home, which you can really tell. Now that we have Little, everyone who meets her can't stop saying how calm and beautiful she is. Top experience, highly recommend.

Birth to Going Home

From our living room to yours

Nothing about a well-started puppy is accidental. This is the same 10 to 12 weeks every Toledo Bend litter walks through, in order.

  1. Week 1

    Born in Our Living Room

Whelped beside us, never in a kennel. The first week is warmth, weight checks every morning and almost nothing else.

  2. Week 3

    Eyes Open, World Opens

Wobbling onto their feet and meeting texture, sound and handling for the first time — gently, and a little every day.

  3. Week 5

    Household Socialisation

Vacuums, doorbells, children, the television, the vet-visit routine. Confidence is built here or not at all.

  4. Week 6

    Veterinary Clearance

A full examination, first vaccinations and deworming, with the vet's written record going home in your folder.

  5. Week 7

    Matched to Your Family

We pair temperament to household rather than first come, first served — the quiet one to the quiet home.

  6. Weeks 10–12

    Going Home

A head start on crate and potty training, a folder of records, and a breeder you can call for the rest of their life.

The Breed

Why a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?

Centuries of careful breeding produced one of the most adaptable and affectionate companion dogs in the world.

Exceptionally Affectionate

Cavaliers live to be with their people. They thrive on human connection and rarely know a stranger.

Perfect for Any Home

Equally happy in a city apartment or a sprawling ranch — they adapt beautifully to their environment.

Wonderful with Families

Gentle with children and respectful with seniors. Cavaliers are famously easy-going with everyone they meet.

Moderate Exercise

A daily walk and some play keeps them happy. Athletes when you want them to be, couch dogs the rest of the time.
